Euro Trip 2015: Grindelwald, Shilthorn & Switzerland

We made good progress to Grindelwald, Switzerland from Lake Garda but satnav rerouted us as we got closer to Interlaken after the Simplon Pass. It seemed the was some kind of road closure along the west of Interlarken so had to take an alternative route. Surprisingly the satnav took us round part of the Grimsel Pass so we stopped in for a coffee at the top.

The Hotel Aplinhof hotel at Grindelwald was very classically Swiss with views from our balcony of the Eiger. Rooms were great for a 3* hotel, spacious, clean and with a coffee maker too, a welcome change after the lack of them in Italian hotels. It lacked air-con but although temperatures were over 30C in the day the evenings cool off considerably making it a comfortable mid 20s in the night.

We did not have long in Grindelwald, the costs of the train to Jungfrau were disappointingly high so we opted for the only slightly cheaper option of visiting the Shilthorn. At the 2015 rates it worked out to about £120 for two people to ride the cable car to the top.
